Like a tyrannical two-year-old, the Emperor of China is never happy unless he gets his way. He insists on having the best and most of everything... the best gardens, the best robes, the best music... even the best marbles. Yet all the extravagant riches he collects leave him feeling empty, until he meets a plain brown nightingale whose simple, lyrical song strikes a silent chord deep inside his heart. Will the Emperor learn anything from the sweetness of the nightgale's song? Or will his greed destroy the one thing that can make him truly happy? Adapted from the elegant fable by Hans Christian Andersen, this beautiful tale from the orient performed by Tarraddidle Players invites the audience to become a part of a wonderful journey of discovery.

This riveting new work commissioned by Eckerd Theater Company is a musical about Civil War drummer boys, based on the book and lyrics by Doug Cooney. Cooney has written screenplays for SONY pictures and Nickelodeon and television scripts for the Disney Channel and the Discovery Channel. The Eckerd Theater Company's production of Battledrum tells the story of Rufus, a Confederate orphan adopted by a troop of Union soldiers, who eventually becomes their drummer boy. More than two million boys age 17 or younger served on both sides of the American Civil War as infantry, buglers and drummer boys. Based on a wealth of compelling stories of real-life children who fought the Civil War. Battledrum explores a complex period in American history through the eyes of young people. A sweeping tale, idelibly etched through compelling characters, daring adventure, raucous comedy, stirring music, and, of course, drums.
