Singer-storyteller David Holt to perform
YORK, SC – Nationally acclaimed musician and storyteller David Holt will perform at the Culture & Heritage Museums’ 11th annual Keepers of the Culture awards ceremony, 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the McCelvey Center, 212 E. Jefferson St. in York.
The award honors individuals who possess a deep commitment to preserving, communicating and connecting the cultural history of our community. The 2009 honorees are Dan Huntley, Lindsay Pettus and the Jeff Wilson Family.
David Holt traveled to remote mountain communities in a quest to learn old-time banjo playing. He found not only folk music, but mountain wisdom and tall tales. He plays ten acoustic instruments, has released numerous recordings and won a Grammy with Doc Watson in 2002 for "Legacy," a three-CD collection. His most recent CD, “Live and Kickin' at the National Storytelling Festival” also has been nominated for a Grammy.
The Keepers of the Culture Awards are sponsored by Will Close and Bank of York.
