The Secret Sisters to Perform at McCelvey Center Saturday, January 26, 2013
YORK, SC – The McCelvey Center Southern Sound Series continues with a performance by The Secret Sisters on Saturday, January 26th at 7:30pm at the McCelvey Center’s Lowry Family Theater, 212 E. Jefferson St., York, South Carolina. Real-life sisters Laura and Lydia Rogers grew up in northern Alabama surrounded by country music, singing traditional country songs with family and honing their stunning harmonizing skills in their hometown church. The two sisters recall a look and sound from times past. Appearing on stage in crinoline-lifted dresses and bright red lipstick, the duo perform sweet, shuffling old-time country melodies, with a mix of traditional songs and American standards thrown in like Sinatra’s “Something Stupid.” Their clear, mesmerizing vocals have captured audiences across the country and abroad. Acclaimed rootsy singer/songwriter and producer, T-Bone Burnett has said of the performers, “They are as close to pure as it gets!” Their song, “Tomorrow Will Be Kinder,” has been featured on the soundtrack of The Hunger Games. The Secret Sisters are featured in the January issue of Southern Living Magazine. Hear a sample of their music here. COST: $14 CHM members, $17 non-members.
