Event Description:

The shearing of our Gulf Coast sheep with in-depth demonstrations of how people processed wool into useable fabric for clothing. Families and fiber enthusiasts are encouraged to attend. 

• Sheep shearing (1 sheep per hour on the half-hour, beginning at 10:30)
• Carding & spinning: Make-and-take activity: finger spinning)
• Dyeing: Make-and-take activity: dyeing samples of wool yarn with natural dye
• Weaving with special presenter Beth Melton demonstrating and discussing The Coverlet Project, an on-going interpretive activity to reproduce a 19th century coverlet on an 1850s barn loom
• Tailoring demonstration featuring an extensive discussion of why wool made good clothing
• Knitting
• Washing the fleece
• Historic cooking
