School of Hard Rocks—Geology of the Piedmont Workshop
9 AM - Noon with optional off-site field trip 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Introductory workshop on the geology of the Carolina Piedmont. Dr. Steve Fields, Curator of Natural History and adjunct professor of biology at Winthrop University, will lead you through the basics of rocks and minerals, how they form, and what they tell us about our region. Through hands-on activities, participants will identify rocks, test minerals and trace the dynamic origins of the earth beneath our feet.

An optional off-site field trip to Forty Acre Rock and the Great Dike of Pageland in Lancaster County will follow the workshop from 12:30- 4:30 pm.

Pre-registration and payment is required by September 23, 2016. Registration fee is $35 for non-members, $25 for CHM members, and $15 for CHM volunteers. Ages 12 and up are welcome. All teens under 16 must be accompanied by a registered adult. To register call 803-981-9182 or email
