Event Description:
Staunton & Charlottesville, Virginia
May 17 & 18, 2012
Thursday, May 17th: We will depart from MYCO at 8:00 am via motor coach with a picnic lunch en route to Staunton, Virginia. Upon afternoon arrival, we will tour the Museum of Frontier Culture, an acclaimed outdoor site. Following check-in at the historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel, we will be free to enjoy dinner on our own. We will meet for a 7:30 pm performance of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, at the Blackfriars Playhouse in the American Shakespeare Center within walking distance of our hotel. Following the performance, we may wish to stay for a 10:00 pm “talk back” in which audience members are invited to talk with the actors about the production.
Friday, May 18th: After breakfast on our own and an early check out from the hotel, we will depart for Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. Our admission will allow us both a House Tour – a must-see – as well as an additional specialty tour. Travelers will have the choice of a Gardens & Grounds Tour or a Slavery at Monticello Tour. Our lunch will be at nearby historic Michie Tavern. After lunch, our final stop will be at the Blenheim Vineyards, for a tour or tasting. The remainder of the afternoon will be spent relaxing on our bus, watching a movie and enjoying a boxed dinner. We anticipate a late return at 9:30 pm to Rock Hill.
