Celebrate the courage of people before the Civil War in their escape to freedom. In commemoration of black history month, the planetarium is presenting” Follow the Drinking Gourd.” This program examines how slaves in Alabama and Mississippi used the Big Dipper and a song to find their way to freedom in Canada before the Civil War. Join us in the planetarium for this true story of bravery. In addition, you will learn how to find the drinking gourd or as it is now known as the Big Dipper for yourself.
