CHF Heading

In November 1998, the Culture and Heritage Foundation (CHF) was formed to raise, invest, and manage endowment, capital building, acquisition, and operating funds for the exclusive benefit of all sites and programs operated by and/or supported by the CHC.

CHF is a 501-(c)-3 charitable organization governed by an independent self-appointed board of trustees. Through its initial organization, it incorporated an existing CHC endowment for collections and exhibitions and new funds were established to provide for improvements to CHC’s existing sites as well as the development of a new museum. The CHF’s Campaign for Deeper Understanding was launched in August 2003.

Culture & Heritage Foundation Staff CHF’s approach to funding needs of the Culture & Heritage Museums is an excellent example of an energetic public-private partnership that began with the merger of the county’s cultural institutions in 1997. After the lead $8.5 million gift of the McColl land was received, in June 2000 York County pledged $8 million in support for plans for the new Museum and other CHM projects based on their potential to substantially enhance quality life and economic development. The power of the future Museum of Life and the Environment’s themes and its national stature when combined with the linked system concept is expected to attract new support from public entities as well as contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations in the two Carolinas and the nation.
